Media Club Visits the Echo.
Recently Media Club went on a trip to see how the Dorset Echo was made. Mr. Horton the sub-editor, showed us around. We found out about how adverts are put in the paper, how pictures are taken and inserted and finally how the whole paper is put together. The children each had a mock front page to take away with them, where they were the front page news. Now we want to make our own school newspaper!

We would like to give a big thank you to Mr. Horton and everyone at the Dorset echo.

Interview Pratice

Media Club started interviewing each other to improve the questioning skills. This is a vital skill when trying to get information from an interviewee. You can hear the results of their hard work by clicking on the link below.

Inter House Football Competition.

After bad weather forced the cancellation of Tuesday's game between Phoenix and Dragon, the players took to the pitch on Thursday. This did not deter Media Club who were busy reporting on the sport for the school website.

Both teams played extremely well, with Phoenix taking advantage of having an extra player to narrowly win 2-1, after Dragon took the lead. Unicorn take an early lead in the league table on goal difference.

Media Club used the schools mini disk recorder to record interviews with the players and organizers and then produced a very informative report for the school website.

Media Club were invited to visit The Dorset Echo.

Media Club were invited to visit The Dorset Echo. They wrote articles to go in the newspaper and had the opportunity to visit the newspaper to watch their articles and pictures actually being edited and printed in the newspaper.

They met Paul Baker who is the Sports Editor. He showed them round. We saw the store room called The Dungeon where old newspapers are kept. They visited the editorial area where the reporters, photographers and editors work. They saw the computers used to make the newspapers.

Finally they visited the printing area where the newspapers are printed. They saw the plates that are used to print the newspaper. The most exciting time was watching the newspapers appearing and being carried across the ceiling by machine, then being packed and sent off to the shops.

All of the children were given their very own copy of The Dorset Echo with their stories in to take away.

Mr. Greenacre and all of Media Club want to thank everyone at The Dorset Echo for their help in turning them into real reporters for a day! Click here to download the WRJTimes special edition in adobe PDF format.
