Look out Flintoff!

The Year 4 cricket squad excelled themselves recently at Portland Red Triangle CC where Grant (Stumpy) Nevin hosted a superb tournament. Our Year 4 squad were dismayed to see that their opponents were Year 5 and 6 children from three Portland schools. However, 2 hours later we had played 8, won 8! Wyke A and Wyke B met in the final but it was agreed that they were all winners and that the trophy would be shared .

Our thanks to Mr Hyde, Sammi and Grant for coaching the teams and to Eddie and Jimmy for their energy and enthusiasm on the day.

Caribbean carnival
To celebrate the end of year 5 study of St Lucia we will be holding a Caribbean Carnival on Friday the 18th of July. The Carnival will take place on the School field at 1:30pm and will last half an hour. The Carnival will include a procession where the children will wear tie dyed t-shirts that they have made themselves.

You are welcome to come and join us if you are able to, just don't expect to see a polished event as it will not have been rehearsed! The carnival will not go ahead if Sports fails to take place on the Thursday, as the Friday is the reserve day.

French Week

Pupils at Wyke Regis Junior School have enjoyed a week of French
activities, starting with a French Breakfast in the school hall. The children had the choice of French breads, fresh fruit and a fruit juice to the accompaniment of French cafe music.

During the week, children chose a different activity each day, all with a French flavour, including baking crepes and chocolate eclairs, playing boules, singing traditional songs and dancing the Cancan.

They could paint in the style of Seurrat or the cave paintings at Lascau; make the bedroom from a famous painting by Van Gogh or make tourist brochure. They created children's books and brochures, and even a suitcase full of clothes ready for their holidays. Carnival masks were another popular choice.

At the end of the week, a celebration assembly was held when the
children could show off their creations. French week came at the end
of the first year of teaching French to the Lower School at
Wyke Regis. In September, Years 5 and 6 will also get to enjoy French lessons.

4M Pirates cove Visit.

4M recently enjoyed fantastic weather as they walked to Pirates Cove at the Chesil Beach nature Reserve. Whilst there they enjoyed various beach activities, looked at the fauna and flora that inhabits the area and looked at the topography of the area.

They could not have wished for better weather to enjoy the area and there was plenty to see and do whilst trying to find crabs under the sea weed.

South American Day
Yesterday Year 4 had a South American Day. Some of our children joined with Holy Trinity School for a fantastic singing and drumming workshop with Christine Page and Ron Vint from Dorset Music Service.

Other Children spent the day making Inca masks, head dresses and models of the giant bird, the Condor. The whole day was rounded off with a short performance for parents and friends. As well as singing and drumming, 8 children danced an Argentinian Tango whilst Holy Trinity read out some wonderful poetry they had written.
